The Hands Of Time

The hands of time revolve so fast
I stand and watch his childhood pass
I see him slip beneath my arms
That sought to keep him safe from harm
Into a world I tried to hide
While he was safely by my side
The little hand that held mine fast
Is reaching for the world at last
And pride and heartache merge to say
He crossed the street alone today.

Childhood does seem to pass so quickly. This brought back memories of two little ones of mine, and also brought a happy tear to my eye. Beautifully written.
